I found it on a corrupted external drive I bought for five dollars at a yard sale. Amidst folders of blurry vacation photos and dead tax software sat a single, compressed file: Volcano.Tower.rar . Most people would delete it. I clicked "Extract Here."

The humming in my computer stopped. The room suddenly felt freezing cold. I looked down at my hands and realized my skin was the color of cooled basalt, gray and cracked, and for the first time in my life, I couldn't feel the warmth of my own breath. Volcano.Tower.rar

I launched the program. My monitor flickered, the colors bleeding into a harsh, high-contrast palette of obsidian blacks and magmatic oranges.
