While traveling to find the Patch Village, Yoh and his friends encounter Lyserg Diethel, a young British shaman with a dowsing pendulum. Lyserg is obsessed with revenge against Hao for the death of his parents and tests the group’s strength to see if they are worthy allies.
Yoh and Horohoro discover they are scheduled to fight each other in their very first match. Before the battle, Horohoro's sister, Pirika , arrives and expresses her worry that Yoh might try to sabotage her brother.
