There is a beautiful tension here. Just a few verses earlier, Paul says to "bear one another’s burdens." But in verse 5, he says "each one should carry their own load." Scholars note that while "burdens" refers to overwhelming, heavy weights we need help with, the "load" in verse 5 refers to a —the personal responsibility each of us must carry ( Blue Letter Bible ).
