The story follows Evan McCauley, a man who has lived his life believing he suffers from schizophrenia due to vivid hallucinations and skills he never learned. He eventually discovers that these "visions" are actually memories from his past lives. He is recruited by a secret society of similar individuals known as "Infinites" who can remember their past lives and must use their collective knowledge to stop a rogue member, Bathurst, from ending all life on Earth to halt the cycle of reincarnation.
