Kirsty Maccoll Terry -

: MacColl originally wrote the song for Tracey Ullman to record. However, her label, Stiff Records , liked her demo so much they insisted she release it herself as part of an intended album of "teen ballads".

Tragically, she was killed in a controversial boating accident in Cozumel, Mexico, in December 2000 while saving her son from an illegally operated speedboat. Every year on her birthday (October 10), fans gather at a commemorative bench in , a landmark inspired by the lyrics of her song "Soho Square".

: The video features actor and comedian Ade Edmondson (famed for The Young Ones ) as the rejected boyfriend who gets Kirsty back after "fighting off" his rival.

Kirsty MacColl was a highly respected English singer-songwriter known for her work with The Pogues on the Christmas classic .

: Ullman did eventually release her own version, which reached #81 in the UK—pipping Kirsty's original by just one chart position.

: In Tracey Ullman's version, MacColl actually provided the high-pitched "baby" vocals because Ullman couldn't hit the notes herself. Kirsty MacColl's Legacy
