Through notes and messages in bottles found scattered across the islands, you learn the backstory of a husband and wife. Years ago, the husband dredged up an ancient, cursed casket. In an attempt to open it, his wife was lost to the sea. The "Collector" is revealed to be a manifestation of the fisherman’s own grief and madness, obsessed with using the relics and an ancient book (the ) to perform a ritual to bring his wife back. The Endings

As you explore the surrounding waters, the cozy fishing atmosphere quickly shifts into cosmic horror. You encounter a mysterious figure known as , who resides on a lonely island. He tasks you with recovering five "relics" lost in the depths—a ring, a necklace, a watch, a music box, and a key.

The story begins with you, an unnamed fisherman, sailing toward the remote archipelago known as . Caught in a sudden, unnatural fog, your boat is smashed against the jagged rocks. You awake in the town of Greater Marrow, where the local Mayor offers you a replacement vessel—provided you work off the debt by fishing for the community. The Sinister Undertow

: Spending too long in the dark causes your "panic" to rise. The fog starts playing tricks on your mind, manifesting ghost ships, giant sea monsters, and glowing red eyes in the mist.

: You begin catching "Aberrations"—distorted, multi-eyed, and horrific versions of normal fish—suggesting a deep-seated corruption in the ocean. The Lost Memory

: You resist the Collector's influence, realize the danger of the relics, and throw the Book of the Deep back into the ocean. While this results in your own demise (often being consumed by a leviathan), it seals away the ancient evil and saves the world from the cosmic horror.
